Certified “Bee” Corporation – World Bee Day, May 20 2021

Certified “Bee” Corporation

Certified “Bee” CorporationWorld Bee Day, May 20 2021 (UN Designated)

May 20th is World Bee Day and Pupfish Sustainability Solutions is celebrating our commitment to the environment as both a “Bee” Corporation and a Pending Certified “B” Corporation.

So, what is a Certified B Corporation?

Certified B Corporations are companies that have made a commitment to using a business as “a force for good.” This commitment includes creating a company culture of transparency, cultivating prosperous conditions for workers, engaging with the needs of the local community, and safeguarding the environment through sustainable practices. Some notable Certified B corporations are Patagonia Works, Ben & Jerry’s, and Coursera.

So, how do you become B certified?

A company must submit the B Impact Assessment – an extensive online evaluation of how your company measures up on social, environmental, and company culture standards. This assessment is scored by independent analyzers at B Lab who determine if a company meets the minimum score for certification. Pupfish Sustainability Solutions is currently qualified as a Pending B Corporation, and we hope to be fully certified within the year!

So, what’s up with the bees?

No one is more intimately familiar with sustainable business practices than honey bees. Each bee – from the workers to the drones to the queen – has an important role in the overall health of a functioning, successful hive. And although these colonies of tiny workers play a HUGE role in the survival of the human species, bee populations are currently under threat due to invasive human practices and rising greenhouse gas emissions! The United Nations has designated May 20th as World Bee Day to raise awareness of how our actions as individuals and businesses can affect local ecosystems. “Bee” friendly to our friendly bees and plant native, local plants that flower throughout the year, avoid using pesticides, fungicides or herbicides in your garden, or try your hand at becoming an amateur beekeeper, like Pupfish Founder, David Faverio.

“A bee colony is an example of perfect teamwork,” says David Faverio. “Teamwork, communication, and resiliency – requirements for an organization to thrive.”
