What is a Pupfish, anyway?

The Faverio Family hiking in Salt Creek, 2005

What is a pupfish? It’s a question the team at Pupfish Sustainability Solutions is asked every day. For Pupfish founder, David Faverio, the answer is far more personal and is one he takes pride in answering after choosing the name of his newest sustainability company.

”A Pupfish is a tiny, endangered fish that lives in Death Valley. It survives under the most extreme conditions, and its existence is challenged primarily by human negligence – very similar to our environment.  My parents used to travel to Death Valley every year after attending an electronics trade show in Las Vegas, and one of my dad’s favorite activities was a hike out to see the Pupfish. Through the years, Dad brought his children, and later, his grandchildren, out to Death Valley to share the pupfish experience with them as well. If this is a trip you or your family might consider taking, I highly recommend staying at either The Oasis (which was once The Furnace Creek Inn) or The Ranch, also part of The Oasis. Both are set along Highway 190 next to the National Park Service Visitor Center, approximately six miles from the hiking trails at Salt Creek and our beloved pupfish.”

When choosing the name for a sustainably minded company offering data destruction and electronics recycling services, many words come to mind, probably all more effective at describing our services. But Pupfish Sustainability Solutions is just more meaningful. The Pupfish embodies characteristics that are important for all businesses - resiliency, adaptability and survival in the harshest conditions.  And this company also represents key aspects of businesses operated by my father – transparency, integrity and doing what is best for the client.

”The pupfish will always be meaningful to me, and my hope is that companies who partner with us will learn our brand story and come to appreciate its significance.” Until they do, we are all more than happy to answer the question, “what is a pupfish anyway?”.
