Reflections on 2025

Five years ago, Pupfish opened its doors in October 2020, during the height of the COVID-19 pandemic and a moment of immense social and economic upheaval. It was an unusual beginning, marked by lots of uncertainties, but we were guided by our clear, shared vision: to make Long Island a greener, safer place to live and protect the natural beauty of our home for generations to come. While uncertainty is always part of business, five years in we’re clear on what matters most: our expertise, our commitment to our clients, our integrity of service with security always at the forefront, and our continued dedication to sustainability as we work toward a better future for everyone.

Team Pupfish working with the new LM-1 Degausser

This year, Pupfish expanded our data destruction capabilities with the addition of a new LM-1 Degausser, increasing throughput while strengthening our commitment to data security. We recently completed our first job using this equipment, processing more than 8,000 data-containing devices during an on-site destruction project for a Long Island school district. We invested in making Pupfish easier than ever to work with by launching new online tools, including a comprehensive electronics pickup booking request form. Pupfish proudly achieved B Corporation recertification, reaffirming our commitment to the highest standards of social and environmental impact. Beyond operations, we partnered with Stetson Cybergroup to host a Career Day at Baldwin School District, participated in key networking events including ASSETNY Conference, BizConnect LI, and the GNYADA Regional Meeting, and presented a panel on cybersecurity to members of LI Advancement for Small Business alongside Stetson Cybergroup and AssuredPartners. We are also proud to have received our first-ever nomination for Best Green Business in the Four Leaf Best of Long Island Awards.

Team Pupfish at the finish line of the Paddle Battle LI Corporate Challenge

Team Pupfish once again participated in the Paddle Battle LI Corporate Challenge benefiting the New York Marine Rescue Center (earning our fourth 1st place finish), as well as Race the Narrows, supporting the Mastic Beach Conservancy’s preservation of local waterfront parkland. We partnered with Longwood Library to host our fourth annual Earth Day Electronics Recycling Event for community members and organized a corporate Earth Day recycling event at Spellman Electronics. We enjoyed perfect weather conditions at this year’s the Maggie Fischer Great South Bay Cross Bay Swim, and the swim went off without a hitch, raising over $120,000 for the Hospice Care Network Children’s and Family Bereavement Program.

Finally, we are proud to share that Pupfish has kept more than 450,000 pounds of toxic e-waste out of landfills to date. To our clients across Long Island, New York City, New Jersey, Connecticut, Pennsylvania, Rhode Island, and beyond, thank you for your trust and for sharing our commitment to data security, sustainability, and building a better tomorrow. I’d also like to take a moment to express my gratitude towards Team Pupfish, who continue to inspire me daily through their work ethic, dedication, and unbeatable sense of humor. Here’s to five years in business! Although the New Year will be full of new uncertainties, it will also present new opportunities. Of that, we can be certain. Here’s to the new year!
